«El Embrujo de Shanghai» is the movie by Fernando Trueba (2002), starring Ariadna Gil, Fernando Fernán Gómez and Eduard Fernández, on DVD.
In 1948 Barcelona, Dani, a boy who looks after the elderly Captain Blay, is fascinated by the stories of the maquis and by Susana, a young woman from the village. The tales of a hero who sets off for Shanghai on a dangerous mission add color to a gray post-war period, until reality takes over.
Based on the novel by Juan Marsé. Winner of three Goya Awards, including Best Art Direction. The DVD features audio in Castilian and subtitles in Spanish, English and French.
For fans of period drama and post-war Spanish cinema with an adolescent perspective.
