«Generación robada» is the 2002 movie by Phillip Noyce, starring Everlyn Sampi and Kenneth Branagh, on DVD.
The film recreates a real episode from Australia in 1931: three Aboriginal girls are separated from their families by a policy of forced assimilation and confined to a center where they are forbidden from speaking their language and maintaining their culture. After escaping, they travel 1,500 miles through hostile territory to return home while the authorities pursue them, in a tale of resistance and survival.
Distributed by Filmax. Running time: 90 minutes. Audio in English and Spanish, with subtitles in both languages. Not recommended for children under 7.
Will appeal to those seeking a historical drama based on real events; it is also used as a teaching resource to address Australian colonization and its consequences.
