Synopsis of Historia de un detective
Philip Marlowe, un detective privado en Los Ángeles, recibe la visita de Moose Malloy, un exconvicto que busca a su exnovia Velma. Inicialmente contratado para encontrarla, Marlowe se ve envuelto en un caso más complejo al recibir otro encargo. Debe acompañar a un hombre para recomprar un collar robado, pero la situación se complica cuando Marlowe queda inconsciente y despierta junto al cadáver de Marriott. La trama se enreda aún más cuando Malloy revela que la fotografía que tiene no es de Velma y la propietaria del collar informa que Marriott la chantajeaba. Una serie de muertes y sucesos llevan a Marlowe a ser acusado de un crimen que no cometió, mientras todas las pistas lo señalan como culpable.
