A letter published in the last column that journalist Ann Mitchell must write, signed by herself as "John Doe" announcing his imminent suicide, forces the newspaper to create a "John Doe". To do this, they use a mediocre baseball player. What started as a game reaches tragic proportions and an unexpected ending in this classic film directed by Frank Capra.
