Directed by Andrzej Wajda, this film chronicles the final years of Dr. Janusz Korczak, a Polish-Jewish doctor and educator who operated an orphanage in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Nazi occupation. The screenplay is directly inspired by his ghetto diary, depicting his heroic efforts to protect the children under his care until their tragic end in 1942.
