In 1917, wounded during the fighting in Europe, Sergeant Michael Dunne is repatriated to Canada. At the hospital, he meets Sarah, a young nurse with whom he falls in love. When Sarah's young brother enlists to fight, Michael returns to the front to protect him. Like thousands of other soldiers, they will take part in the terrible Battle of Passchendaele.
