«La Cinta Blanca» is the film by Michael Haneke (2009), starring Christian Friedel, Ernst Jacobi and Ulrich Tukur, on Blu-ray.
In 1913, in a Protestant community in northern Germany, unsettling and inexplicable events chain together until they take on the appearance of collective punishment. Schoolteacher, choir children, families, baron, doctor and midwife form a portrait of authority, repression and guilt that points to the origins of Nazism on the eve of the First World War.
In black and white, with audio in German and Spanish (Dolby Digital 5.1) and Spanish subtitles. 145 minutes. Region B Blu-ray from Cameo Media. Not recommended for under 13s.
Palme d'Or at Cannes 2009 and Best European Film, for those seeking a thought-provoking European historical drama.
