Seymour, a shy clerk in a flower shop, is in love with his colleague Audrie, but she puts up with a cruel dentist boyfriend. After a strange eclipse, Seymour obtains an unknown plant, which he names Audrie II. The plant grows spectacularly and attracts curious people to the shop, but to keep thriving it needs a very unusual food.
