Just Mercy tells the true story of young lawyer Bryan Stevenson. After graduating from Harvard, Stevenson heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned, with the support of local activist Eva Ansley. One of his most incendiary cases is that of Walter McMillian, who in 1987 was sentenced to death for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite evidence of his innocence. Over the years, Bryan finds himself entangled in a web of legal and political maneuvering, facing blatant racism as he fights for Walter and others like him within a hostile system.
