La película reconstruye las vicisitudes y el recorrido de esas obras de arte, desde que fueron embaladas en un total de 1.868 cajas hasta su llegada a Ginebra. Allí se creó un comité internacional para el salvamento del tesoro español, y se custodiaron las cajas hasta su regreso al museo, el 9 de septiembre de 1939.
