«Las Manos Vacías» is the movie directed by Marc Recha (2003), starring Eduardo Noriega, Olivier Gourmet and Mireille Perrier, on DVD.
In a village near the border, the story is observed from several perspectives: Perroquet, a parrot who witnesses the death of its owner, Mme. Catherine; Yann, the innkeeper who shares wine with Eric and Jean-Claude; and a biscuit tin holding the deceased's savings. The money changes hands, ends up in a washing machine and entangles jealousies and loves among the neighbors.
DVD zone 2, PAL, 16:9, Dolby Digital AC-3 stereo; running time: 130 minutes. Languages: Spanish and original version with subtitles; subtitles in Spanish. Not recommended for under-13s.
Will appeal to fans of European auteur cinema: it was an official selection in Un Certain Regard at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
