Set at the end of World War I, a division of the French Foreign Legion led by Major Foster (Gene Hackman) is ordered to protect an archaeological expedition led by Marceau (Max von Sydow). Despite his opposition to what he believes is 'grave robbing', Foster must obey orders while facing the wrath of El Krim, a powerful Arab leader who uses the expedition to incite religious fanaticism among his tribes and lead an attack on the foreigners. This intense adventure and war drama features a stellar cast including Terence Hill and Catherine Deneuve, exploring themes of loyalty, military honor, and cultural conflict in the desert.
