«Monsieur Batignole» is the movie directed by and starring Gérard Jugnot (2002), on DVD.
In the midst of the occupation of France, the life of butcher Batignole is disrupted when, despite his initial prejudices, he decides to protect a persecuted Jewish family. The film combines drama and touches of humor to portray fear, cowardice and everyday courage on the home front, with restrained violence and an ironic tone.
Running time: 100 minutes; subtitles in Spanish and audio in Spanish and French. Region 2 DVD edition with one disc. Not recommended for children under 7.
For those seeking a character-driven war drama, with irony and little explicit violence, rather than an action movie.
