«Padre Padrone» is the movie by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani (1977), on DVD.
The film adapts the autobiography of Gavino Ledda, a young Sardinian forced by his father to leave school and work the land. Military service takes Ledda away from his village and allows him to get an education; on his return he is reunited with his father, a figure who embodies rural life, in a drama that pits the peasant world against culture.
