Directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, this film is based on the autobiographical novel by Gavino Ledda. It tells the story of a young Sardinian shepherd who, after years of isolation and abuse by his authoritarian father, manages to escape his rural environment to educate himself and transform his destiny through knowledge and personal growth. This masterpiece of Italian cinema is a moving tale about the struggle for freedom, education, and breaking cycles of family oppression.
