In 1945, in the final months of World War II, Allied troops advance toward Germany and only the bridge at Remagen, over the Rhine, remains in German hands. The Germans try to protect thousands of soldiers trapped on the other side; the Allies seek to end the war sooner. The film follows both sides in the struggle for that strategic crossing, inspired by the real episode of the Ludendorff Bridge.
