During World War II, an American symphony orchestra is captured by the Germans in Belgium. The musicians are taken to a medieval castle where General Schiller, a music-loving military man, proposes to save their lives in exchange for an exclusive concert for high-ranking German officers. The orchestra's director, Lionel Evans, refuses, endangering his companions before the ruthless Colonel Arndt. This 1967 film, directed by Ralph Nelson, presents an intense war drama with outstanding performances by Charlton Heston and Maximilian Schell.
