«An Ancient Muse» is the album by Loreena McKennitt, released in 2006 on Quinlan Road, on CD (special 2-disc edition).
An album with Celtic roots and influences from the Mediterranean and the Near East, featuring tracks such as «The Gates of Istanbul», «Caravanserai» and «Penelope's Song». The lyrics draw on the history and mythology of various cultures, and McKennitt's voice leads a sonic journey between the traditional and the evocative.
The main disc brings together nine songs; the extra disc, exclusive to the Spanish edition, adds three live recordings at the Alhambra, Granada, in September 2006.
For those who enjoy Celtic music and fusion folk, as well as the voice and narrative style of Loreena McKennitt.
