«Bach: Gamba Sonatas» is the album by Johann Sebastian Bach featuring the sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord, released in 2002 by Harmonia Mundi on CD.
The album brings together Bach sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord in performances by Paolo Pandolfo and Rinaldo Alessandrini. The writing combines the low register of the viola with the keyboard counterpoint in a chamber dialogue; among the works are the sonatas BWV 1027 and BWV 1029.
Single CD, issued in the ‘musique d’abord’ collection from Harmonia Mundi; the cover includes the mention ‘Schola Cantorum Basiliensis - Documenta’.
Ideal for listeners of Baroque and chamber music, especially those who value performances on historical instruments and recordings from the Harmonia Mundi label.
