«Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 / Schoenberg: A Survivor from Warsaw» is the CD album by Erich Leinsdorf and the Boston Symphony Orchestra (2000, RCA Red Seal).
It brings together Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 'Choral' and Schoenberg's 'A Survivor from Warsaw', Op. 46. The symphony includes chorus and four vocal soloists; Schoenberg's work is a dramatic piece for narrator, male chorus and orchestra. Erich Leinsdorf conducts the Boston Symphony Orchestra, with Sherrill Milnes as narrator.
CD edition from the High Performance series, with digital remastering of the 1968 recording. Total duration: 72 minutes. Featuring the Chorus Pro Musica and the New England Conservatory Chorus.
Aimed at classical music enthusiasts who want to contrast Beethoven's symphonism with Schoenberg's modernity.
