«Blues in Orbit» is the jazz album by Duke Ellington, released in 2004 by Sony Music Entertainment, on CD.
The album, recorded in early-morning sessions between 1958 and 1959, combines classics such as «C Jam Blues» and «In a Mellow Tone» with new pieces, including the title track, reflecting Ellington's interest in the space age, and «Smada», composed with Billy Strayhorn.
2004 remastered reissue on one CD, adding eight bonus tracks to the original 1960 album, including an unreleased alternate take of the title song.
For fans of classic jazz and big band swing, and for Duke Ellington collectors interested in unreleased alternate takes.
