«Borodin: Symphonies Nos. 1, 2 & 3 / Petite Suite / Polovtsian Dances» is the double album by Alexander Borodin, released by Brilliant Classics in 2007, on 2 CDs.
This double album brings together Borodin's three complete symphonies, the Petite Suite in Glazunov's orchestration and the famous Polovtsian Dances, featuring soloists Tord Wallström and Larissa Dyadkova. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Gennady Rozhdestvensky, performs a program representative of Russian Romanticism, from symphonic breadth to more evocative pages.
Recorded in 1993/1994 at the Stockholm Concert Hall, under license from Chandos Records Ltd. The album also includes the Romance for baritone and orchestra and «At the Homes of Other Folk» for mezzo-soprano and orchestra.
Recommended for classical music enthusiasts seeking a complete introduction to Borodin's orchestral output or looking to expand their collection of Russian Romantic symphonies.
