«Coltrane Jazz» is the jazz album by John Coltrane, originally released in 1961 and reissued on CD by Rhino in 1993.
A studio recording showing John Coltrane leading a jazz quartet with his tenor sax as the focus, in a repertoire combining original compositions and standards. The line-ups change from track to track, and the result captures the shift from hard bop toward a freer sound, with room for improvisation.
Recorded in sessions from 1959 and 1960, this CD brings together a single disc with several line-ups; on most tracks, Coltrane is accompanied by Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb.
For jazz fans and followers of John Coltrane's work, particularly those seeking his recordings as a leader on the Atlantic and Rhino labels.
