«Diabelli-Variations / Bagatelles Op. 119» is the Beethoven compilation performed by Rudolf Serkin, released in 1988 by CBS Masterworks, on CD.
The CD brings together two piano cycles: the 33 Diabelli Variations, built on a waltz by Anton Diabelli, and the eleven Bagatelles Op. 119, short pieces of varied character. Rudolf Serkin performs with a sober pianism ranging from variational virtuosity to the intimacy of miniatures.
European edition within the Masterworks Portrait series, with a single CD and digital remastering of the original 1958 and 1966 recordings.
For classical music listeners, both for Beethoven's piano repertoire and for Rudolf Serkin's performance.
