«Dido and Aeneas» is the recording of Henry Purcell's baroque opera, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt and released by Warner Classics on CD in 2008.
The work, inspired by the episode from the Aeneid, tells the story of Dido, queen of Carthage, and the Trojan hero Aeneas: their love is threatened by a sorceress who plots to separate them. Among its arias, «Ah! Belinda» and «When I am laid in earth» stand out.
The version features Ann Murray, Rachel Yakar and Anton Scharinger, with the Arnold Schoenberg Chor and the Concentus Musicus Wien. One-disc CD in stereo within the Das Alte Werk series.
