«Don Carlo» is the recording of Giuseppe Verdi's opera conducted by Claudio Abbado, released by Europa Musica in 1989 on CD (3 discs).
Don Carlo is set in the 16th-century Spanish court, where the eponymous prince is torn between his love for Isabel de Valois, married to his father Philip II, and the political and religious demands of the Inquisition. The work pits dynastic duty against personal feelings in a drama of power, jealousy and faith, with the Princess of Éboli as a key figure.
Four-act version recorded with the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan and bass Nicolai Ghiaurov in the cast; 1989 European reissue on three CDs.
For fans of opera and historical Verdi, including recordings conducted by Claudio Abbado.
