«El Caserío» is the zarzuela in three acts by Jesús Guridi, with libretto by Federico Romero and Guillermo Fernández-Shaw, published by Sony Music on CD in 1987.
«El Caserío» is a lyric comedy in three acts set in the Basque rural world: its plot portrays the customs and characters of a peasant village. The libretto demonstrates solid theatrical craft and Guridi's score draws on Basque popular music of the period.
The recording, in Spanish and on a single CD, is conducted by Ataúlfo Argenta, with Pilar Lorengar, Manuel Ausensi and Carlos Munguía as soloists, the Chamber Choir of the Orfeón Donostiarra and the Symphony Orchestra.
For fans of zarzuela and the Spanish lyric repertoire who value classic recordings on CD.
