«Goldberg Variations» is the album by Johann Sebastian Bach performed by Daniel Barenboim, released in 1991 on Erato, as a double CD.
The Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, begin with an initial aria that gives way to thirty highly diverse variations: canons, an overture, dances, and virtuosic passages. Barenboim performs the complete work on piano live at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires; the recording lasts about 80 minutes and is spread over two CDs.
In addition to the initial aria, the album includes the 'Variatio 16' (overture) and the 'Variatio 25' (adagio), among the thirty variations; Barenboim plays a Steinway piano.
For fans of classical music and the Baroque piano repertoire.
