«Hänsel & Gretel» is the double CD recording of the opera by Engelbert Humperdinck, released in 2004 by Membran International GmbH.
«Hänsel & Gretel» recreates the tale of the siblings who get lost in the forest and find a house made of sweets inhabited by a witch. Humperdinck dresses the story with folk-like melodies, choruses and a romantic orchestration. Among its most famous passages stands out the «Hexenritt» («Witches' Ride»).
1953 recording conducted by Herbert von Karajan, with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Elisabeth Grümmer and the Philharmonia Orchestra. The 24-bit / 96 kHz remastered edition contains the work sung in German.
