«Haydn: Symphonies Vol. 31, Symphonies Nos. 18-21» is the album by Joseph Haydn, released in 2006 by Naxos, on CD.
The album brings together four early Haydn symphonies, composed between 1759 and 1761, when the composer worked for Count Morzin and the Esterházy family. The works show his experimentation with symphonic form, with ensembles of oboes, horns and strings; Symphony No. 20 stands out for adding trumpets and timpani. The recording includes Symphonies No. 18 in G major, No. 19 in D major, No. 20 in C major and No. 21 in A major, performed by the Toronto Chamber Orchestra conducted by Kevin Mallon.
Recorded live at Grace Church-on-the-Hill, Toronto, in July 2004. Label Naxos, reference 8.557657. Total duration: 60:59.
For classical music fans and Haydn symphony enthusiasts wishing to explore 18th-century orchestral repertoire.
