«I Capuleti e i Montecchi» is Vincenzo Bellini's opera, with Agnes Baltsa and Edita Gruberova, conducted by Riccardo Muti, on a double CD from EMI Classics.
The work tells of the impossible love between Romeo and Juliet amid the ancient rivalry between the Capulets and the Montagues. Bellini translates the conflict between family duty and passion into a score of great lyricism, with arias and ensembles of notable vocal brilliance.
Opera in two acts with a libretto by Felice Romani. Live recording at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, by that theatre's Chorus and Orchestra.
For those who enjoy Italian Romantic opera, great voices and choral ensembles conducted by Riccardo Muti.
