«Interplay» is the jazz album by the Bill Evans Quintet, released in 1987 by Concord Records, Inc. on CD.
Bill Evans, known above all for his trios, here leads for the first time a larger ensemble: a quintet with Freddie Hubbard, Jim Hall, Percy Heath and Philly Joe Jones. The title alludes to instrumental dialogue: each soloist brings their voice to pieces built on the quintet's interaction, with an approach close to post-bop.
It belongs to the Original Jazz Classics series, with the original Riverside Records label and catalogue number OJCCD-308-2.
For fans of quintet line-ups and Bill Evans's piano.
