«Ivan the Terrible / Alexander Nevsky» is Prokofiev's double album, released by Sony Classical on CD.
The album brings together two choral works by Prokofiev: «Ivan the Terrible», an oratorio about the Russian tsar Ivan IV presented in Michael Lankester's version, and «Alexander Nevsky», a cantata based on the music from Eisenstein's movie. Both combine choruses, orchestra and soloists, with orchestration of great dramatic force.
Rostropovich conducts the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Chorus, with Christopher Plummer as narrator and soloists Tamara Sinyavskaya, Sergei Leiferkus and Dolora Zajick. 2 CDs.
For classical music fans, especially those interested in major choral works and Prokofiev's music for film.
