«La Traviata» is the compilation of excerpts from Giuseppe Verdi's opera, released in 1987 by EMI, on CD.
The opera, with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave and based on 'La Dame aux Camélias' by Alexandre Dumas fils, tells the tragic romance between the courtesan Violetta Valéry and Alfredo Germont. This CD brings together its most famous numbers, such as the brindisi 'Libiamo ne' lieti calici', the duet 'Un dì felice' and the aria 'Di Provenza'.
Renata Scotto (Violetta), Alfredo Kraus (Alfredo) and Renato Bruson (Giorgio Germont) star in the 1980 recording with the Ambrosian Opera Chorus and the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Muti.
For fans of Italian romantic opera and classic recordings of the operatic repertoire.
