«Lo Mejor de la Zarzuela» is a zarzuela compilation with Alfredo Kraus, Pilar Lorengar and Teresa Tourné, released in 1994 by Hispavox as a double CD.
The double CD brings together classic zarzuela titles, such as «La Revoltosa», «La Verbena de la Paloma» and «Doña Francisquita», in recordings that combine solo voices, choruses and orchestra. The genre is presented in its popular vein, with sung and spoken excerpts, and pieces by composers such as Chapí, Bretón, Sorozábal and Moreno Torroba.
The 1994 edition compiles original Hispavox recordings made between 1957 and 1966; catalogue number 5 65432 2.
It will appeal to fans of Spanish lyric music and to those wanting a representative sample of zarzuela with historic voices.
