This two-CD box set offers a deep dive into the rich musical tradition of Mongolia, a collaboration between Hungaroton and UNESCO. Featuring a selection of ancient lyrical melodies and ritual songs, the album explores the complexity of Mongolian vocal techniques, including overtone singing and extensive use of falsetto, which allow performers to reach extraordinary vocal registers.
Compiled by Lajos Vargyas, this collection highlights regional traditions, showcasing a variety of indigenous instruments and singing styles that offer a unique experience for listeners accustomed to Western music. It serves as an essential testament to Mongolian musical culture, capturing the depth of an art form that remains extraordinarily rich in tonal and technical variation.
