«Mutations» is the studio album by Beck, released in 1998 by Geffen Records on CD.
«Mutations» leaves behind the sample collage of Odelay and moves toward acoustic, melodic songwriting, with influences of lo-fi folk, psychedelic blues and pop-rock. The lyrics are introspective and the arrangements restrained, with acoustic guitar, pedal steel and a band foundation. It includes «Tropicalia», «Cold Brains» and «Nobody's Fault But My Own».
The CD contains thirteen songs and was recorded at Ocean Way Studios, Hollywood, between March and April 1998. «Mutations» won the 2000 Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.
For those who prefer the more serene, acoustic side of Beck, close to indie rock and alternative folk of the nineties.
