«Northern Sulphuric Soul» is the album by Rae & Christian released in 1998 by Grand Central Records on CD.
The album combines hip hop, soul and electronica in downtempo landscapes and breaks, with the trip hop texture that characterized the British scene of the 90s. The voices of Jungle Brothers, Texas, Veba, YZ, Jeru the Damaja and QBall & Curt Cazal alternate rapping and singing; the track Spellbound, with Veba, is one of its standout tracks.
Recorded and mixed at Grand Central Studios in Manchester; released on November 3, 1998; catalogue number GCCD104.
For listeners of 90s British trip hop; those who enjoy Portishead, Morcheeba or Massive Attack will find echoes of that sound.
