«Opera Fantasies for Violin» is the album by Livia Sohn and Benjamin Loeb, released in 2007 on the Naxos label on CD.
It brings together operatic fantasies for violin and piano, a genre that emerged in the 19th century and turns opera melodies into showpieces for instrumental display. It includes Hubay's 'Fantaisie brillante' on Carmen, Paganini's 'I palpiti' on The Barber of Seville and Stravinsky's paraphrase on Mavra, as well as works by Raff, Weill and Golijov.
Recorded in Ontario (Canada) in March 2006, with a total duration of 66 minutes; includes several world premieres.
For classical music enthusiasts who enjoy virtuoso violin and operatic transcriptions.
