«Opium: Mélodies françaises» is the album by Philippe Jaroussky and Jérôme Ducros, released in 2009 by Virgin Classics, on CD.
The album surveys the French mélodie of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with works by Hahn, Fauré, Chausson, Saint-Saëns and Debussy, among others. Jaroussky's countertenor voice, Ducros's piano and small instrumental accompaniments shape this salon repertoire; it includes À Chloris, Le Colibri and L'heure exquise.
Sung in French, the CD includes 24 tracks with a total duration of 66:06. Several pieces feature Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon and Emmanuel Pahud.
Will appeal to fans of classical vocal music, countertenor singing and the French salon repertoire.
