«Orchestral Works, Vol. 1» is the classical music album by Howard Hanson with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, released in 2000 by Naxos on CD.
The CD brings together Howard Hanson's Symphony No. 1 in E minor, Op. 21 «Nordic», the Merry Mount suite and the symphonic poem Pan and the Priest, Op. 26. The Nashville Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kenneth Schermerhorn, offers a reading of pronounced romantic lyricism and evocative orchestration, with echoes of Sibelius and Respighi.
DDD digital recording made at the Andrew Jackson Hall in Nashville on April 20 and October 24, 1999; catalogue number: 8.559072.
For those interested in 20th-century American symphonic repertoire and the Naxos American Classics series.
