«Rise» is the album by Anoushka Shankar, released by Angel Records on CD in a two-disc Gold edition.
The album places the sitar and tabla between Indian classical music, jazz and electronics, with styles ranging from dub and ambient to breakbeat and downtempo. The pieces alternate melodic, almost acoustic passages with others of percussive pulse, in atmospheres ranging from spiritual to mystical.
This Gold edition includes a second CD with remixes and alternative versions of the album's tracks.
It can be a gateway for those who are reluctant to traditional Indian music thanks to its fusion with jazz and electronics.
