«Sacred Music by Johann Schelle» is the sacred music album by Johann Schelle, with The King's Consort and Robert King, released in 2001 by Hyperion, on CD.
The disc brings together nine sacred works by Johann Schelle, Bach's predecessor as cantor of the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. These are Baroque vocal pieces with soloists and instrumental ensemble, varied in character; highlights include «Lobe den Herrn, meine Seele», «Aus der Tiefen» and «Komm, Jesu, komm».
Number 3 in the «Bach's Contemporaries» series. Performers include Carolyn Sampson, Rebecca Outram, James Bowman, Robin Blaze, Charles Daniels, James Gilchrist and Peter Harvey.
For fans of Baroque music and sacred vocal repertoire, especially those seeking little-known 17th-century composers.
