«Shades of Bud Powell» is the album by the Herb Robertson Brass Ensemble, released in 2002 by Winter & Winter on CD.
The Herb Robertson Brass Ensemble pays tribute to bebop pianist Bud Powell with avant-garde jazz: trumpets, trombone, horn, tuba and percussion reinterpret classics such as «Un Poco Loco» and «Hallucinations», alongside Herb Robertson's original piece «Shades Of Bud».
Recorded in January and February 1988 at RPM Sound Studios in New York; this CD from the JMT Edition includes 24-bit digital remastering done at Bauer Studios.
It is aimed at fans of avant-garde jazz and post-bebop interested in instrumental re-readings of Bud Powell's repertoire.
