«Shakuhachi - The Japanese Flute» is the traditional Japanese music album by Kohachiro Miyata, released in 1991 on Nonesuch Classique, on CD.
Kohachiro Miyata performs solo the shakuhachi repertoire with pieces such as «Honshirabe», «Sanya» and «Tsuru no Sugomori». These are meditative works with a deep sonority that show the expressiveness of the Japanese bamboo flute, with slow, resonant passages.
First edition in 1977 within the Explorer series; this reissue appeared in 1991. It includes five pieces, was produced by David Lewiston and features texts in Japanese and English.
For listeners seeking serene instrumental music for relaxation, meditation or an introduction to traditional Japanese music.
