«Sibelius: Kullervo» is the album by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Colin Davis, released in 2006 on LSO Live, on CD.
Kullervo is an early work by Sibelius based on a tragic legend from Finnish folklore: the eponymous hero, raised in solitude, becomes a warrior and ultimately faces a fatal destiny. The score combines orchestra, chorus and soloists, with passages of great dramatic power and evocation of the Nordic landscape.
Soloists are Monica Groop and Peter Mattei, with the London Symphony Chorus. Catalogue number: LSO0074.
For admirers of the music of Jean Sibelius and of Sir Colin Davis's performances with the London Symphony Orchestra.
