«Slippery Rock» is the jazz album by Mostly Other People Do the Killing, released on CD in 2013.
Slippery Rock blends modern jazz with free jazz and the avant-garde, and makes a humorous nod to the smooth jazz of the 70s and 80s. The tracks are inspired by names of Pennsylvania towns and combine virtuoso wind technique with a strongly swinging rhythmic base. Standouts include «Hearts Content», «Sayre» and «Is Granny Spry?».
The quartet consists of Peter Evans (trumpet), Jon Irabagon (saxophones and flute), Moppa Elliott (bass) and Kevin Shea (drums); all compositions are by Moppa Elliott. Recorded in April 2012 at Oktaven Audio.
A record for jazz listeners with a taste for irony and musical quotations, who will enjoy the homage to 70s and 80s smooth jazz.
