Stankonia is the fourth studio album by American hip hop duo Outkast, released on October 31, 2000, by LaFace Records. The album was recorded at Stankonia Recording studios in Atlanta. The album's title, coined by Outkast member Big Boi, is a portmanteau of the group's hometown of Atlanta and the funk concept 'Stank'. Upon its release, Stankonia received widespread acclaim from critics, who praised Outkast's musical experimentation, lyrics, and social themes. The album debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 530,000 copies in its first week. Stankonia spawned three singles that reached the charts: 'B.O.B', 'Ms. Jackson', and 'So Fresh, So Clean'.
