«Symphony No. 1» is the classical music album by Japanese composer Qunihico Hashimoto, released in 2003 by Naxos, on CD.
The recording brings together the Symphony No. 1 in D major (1940), composed for the 2600th anniversary of the founding of Japan, and the symphonic suite Heavenly Maiden and Fisherman (1933), inspired by a Noh drama. Hashimoto's musical language combines post-Romanticism, Expressionism, Impressionism and traditional Japanese music.
World premiere recording at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space, July 24-26, 2001. Naxos 8.555881, Japanese Classics series. Production: Peter Newble; engineering: Tony Faulkner.
Aimed at fans of Japanese symphonic music and recordings of little-known 20th-century repertoire.
