«The Piano Quartets Opp 25, 26 & 60» is the album by Johannes Brahms with Emanuel Ax, Isaac Stern, Jaime Laredo and Yo-Yo Ma, on double CD (Sony Classical, 1990).
The album brings together Johannes Brahms's three piano quartets: Op. 25 in G minor, Op. 26 in A major and Op. 60 in C minor. These are Romantic chamber works with a sustained dialogue between piano and strings; the Rondo alla Zingarese from Op. 25 is one of its characteristic passages.
Edition from the Artist Laureate series with catalog number S2K 45846; total duration 2 h 07 min. Recorded at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and at Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
For those seeking a chamber recording of the Romantic repertoire with a quartet of soloists.
